Preparing to Breastfeed - antenatal course

A confident start to breastfeeding and a calmer start to parenthood

So you want to breastfeed your baby - but you've no idea where to start?! From getting a comfortable latch to ensuring a good milk supply... through to your options for expressing breastmilk and ways that your partner can support you. It can feel like a minefield of information!

In the UK, 8 out of 10 women give up breastfeeding before they want to. Sometimes this is due to lack of support, sometimes it is due to myths about how breastfeeding works and what your baby needs, and sometimes it is because breastfeeding and the responsibility of a new baby can feel overwhelming.

Breastfeeding is both a practical skill and an emotional experience. Arming yourself with knowledge about how breastfeeding works and how to overcome the most common difficulties, whilst having the emotional tools to ensure that you feel calm and positive about your breastfeeding journey and the early weeks of parenthood can make all the difference.

In this 3 week course you and your partner will:

  • Learn how to breastfeed comfortably
  • Identify the most common difficulties (including painful latch & concerns about low milk supply) and how to resolve them
  • Understand how to support your body to make milk and to connect with your baby
  • Learn simple but powerful tools to help breastfeeding and the early weeks feel calmer and less daunting
  • Understand your options for expressing milk, in the early weeks and beyond, so that you know your options for building in flexibility
  • Prepare for the 4th trimester, with guidance on baby-wearing & safe sleeping
  • Access the support you need
  • Receive a selection of relaxations on MP3 & handouts with further resources

You will leave this course feeling calm, confident and excited about making breastfeeding work for you and your baby.
